F3/F5 Vaccination Shortage
Our records indicate that your cat will be due for a booster vaccination in the coming months. Unfortunately, there is a nationwide shortage of all brands and types of feline vaccines, and as a result, we will not have an adequate supply to fulfil these boosters. Until the supply chain is re-established, we are following the guidelines of the Australian Veterinary Association, and our remaining supply will be prioritised for at risk animals such as kittens who have not been previously vaccinated or have only had their first vaccine. Adult cats who have had a series of two to three kitten vaccines along with their first annual booster are at much lower risk of vaccine preventable infectious disease such as Feline Panleukopenia Virus, Feline Calicivirus and Feline Herpesvirus if their boosters are missed within a 12-month window. If your cat is an indoor only cat, there is no need for concern. We will contact you again once the vaccine supply is restored. If your cat goes into boarding, or has free access outdoors, they may be at a higher risk. In this case, we would recommend considering titre testing. This is a simple blood test that will assess antibody levels to determine whether an individual has protective immunity against disease. We can offer this test if you would like to assess {Animal Name}’s antibody titres for boarding certificates and peace of mind. Limiting exposure to unknown cats (via restricting outdoor access) is the best way to protect them further. Currently the expected arrival of cat vaccinations back into the country is estimated to be late April, however this timeline is not concrete. Once supplies have again been established, we will follow the advice of the Australian Veterinary Association, who are working with the vaccine manufactures and veterinary specialists to establish guidelines for cats who have missed their booster vaccination by longer than 6 months. We have records of patients who have missed their annual booster and will contact you as soon as supplies become available again. If you have any questions about this, please feel free to contact our team on 09 6399 7276 within opening hours. Thank you for your understanding. We will be in touch once we have further updates about vaccine availabilities.
